Hurricane Erin is beginning its post-tropical transition but continues to generate dangerous conditions along the U.S. East Coast. Additional tropical disturbances in the Atlantic are showing signs of development.
Erin remains a strong system in the northwestern Atlantic with sustained winds of 110 mph. While not expected to make landfall in the U.S., it will continue moving northeastward, influencing surf and rip current risks along much of the East Coast.
Environmental factors are fueling other systems in the basin:
• Near the Leeward Islands: An 80–90% chance of forming into a tropical depression or storm this weekend.
• Central Tropical Atlantic: Moderate (40–50%) chance of further development as it moves westward.
• Subtropical Atlantic Low: Weakening, with little chance of development.
Expect life-threatening surf and dangerous rip currents along beaches from Florida to New England over the next several days. Coastal communities should stay alert for potential flooding, strong currents, and storm surge impacts. Beachgoers are strongly urged to follow guidance from lifeguards and local officials and avoid swimming in restricted areas to ensure safety.
