About Kold Wrap

Why is Kold Wrap unique?
Kold Wrap is is the only bandage developed for cold treatment which has the ability either at room temperature or after being refrigerated to spread a cooling effect over the course of many hours.

How does it work?
Through its special composition, and its close contact to the skin, a deprivation of heat from the surrounding tissue layers occurs. Through evaporation, a long continuous, long lasting cooling effect takes place. The temperature measured between the band and skin climbs in approximately the first 20 minutes, and afterwards falls again a few degrees due to the pressure and evaporation.

Should it be cooled in advance?
Although it is not necessary, pre-cooling allows a deeper starting temperature and leads to a greater and extended cooling effect.

Can it be frozen?
Due to the water content, the wrap becomes stiff and unusable.

Can it be re-used?
The total duration of cooling lasts approximately 5-6 hours. Normally the band is applied for 30-60 minutes and therefore can be used several times. After use, the bandage should be rerolled and placed in its original container, either the plastic bag or sealable tub (optional). This will prevent the bandage from drying out and losing its cooling properties. After several hours of use, the band will appear to dry out. To help restore some of the cooling effect, you can place the band in clean water or put a small amount of water in the bag, the band will absorb the water and can last for several more applications.

How does it stay on?
The band is self-binding. After wrapping, just press the end of the band for a few seconds and it will hold itself.

Advantages:

It's not too cold, so patients who are most sensitive may tolerate the therapy.
It can be applied directly to the affected area and remain in place for a long time and still allow the patient freedom of movement.
The contact with the skin is more consistent and provides more cooling over a large area.
It provides true compression, which is especially helpful with swelling.
It is not necessary to remove the bandage for x-rays.
Easily transportable, no need for pre-cooling or just use an ice chest.

About Burn Care
How is Burn Care different from Kold Wrap?
This is basically the same material as the wrap with a little change in the composition so when frozen it will remain flexible. The wrap will become solid when frozen. The compress does not cool the same at room temperature due to the fact it is sealed and evaporation cannot take place.

Can it be too cold?
Yes! The pad will begin at the temperature of the freezer. So caution must always be taken to prevent frostbite. The pad should never be removed from its protective plastic and places against the skin. The imprinted or isolated side is placed on the skin after a towel or cover is first placed between the skin and the compress.
